Ilima-Lei Macfarlane is an American professional mixed martial artist currently competing in the flyweight division of Bellator MMA. She is the inaugural and current Bellator Women’s Flyweight World Champion.
Ilima-Lei Macfarlane was born on April 2, 1990, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She specialized in 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, and Wrestling. After started her amateur career in MMA she reached an unbeaten record of 5-0-0 (W-L-D), before turning professional.
Ilima-Lei Macfarlane made her professional MMA debut on January 17, 2015, at Xplode Fight Series – Hurricane. She faced Katie Castro and won the fight by KO on the 10th second of the first round. The fly start, as well as unbeaten amateur record, put her under the light and she signed with Bellator.
On August 28, 2015, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane made her debut in Bellator 141. She fought against Maria Rios and won by split decision.
In 2016, she had three more fights. At Bellator 148, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane won the fight versus Amber Tackett by armbar submission in the first round. At Bellator 157, she won the fight versus Rebecca Ruth by rear-naked choke submission in the second round. At Bellator 167, she won versus Emily Ducote by unanimous decision.
In 2017, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane took part at the Bellator 178 event and won versus Jessica Middleton by armbar submission in the first round. The great winning series gave her a chance to fight for Bellator Women’s Flyweight World Champion. At Bellator 186, she faced Emily Ducote and won by triangle armbar and won the title. She defended the title twice in 2018 (versus Alejandra Lara and Valerie Letourneau) and twice in 2019 (versus Veta Arteaga and Kate Jackson).
