Irene Aldana is a Mexican mixed martial artist (MMA), who competes in the Bantamweight division. As of June 23, 2020, she is No 6 in the UFC women’s bantamweight rankings.
Irene Aldana was born on March 26, 1988, in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. She is fighting for the team of Lobo Gym and her personal professional MMA record is 12-5-0 (W-L-D).
Irene Aldana started her professional MMA career on October 17, 2012, at GEX – Old Jack’s Fight Night. She faced Sandra del Rincon and won by KO (Knees and Punches) in the 15th second of the Round 1. She continued with another two KOs at Xtreme Kombat 21 tournament versus Flor Saenz and Mayra Arce, before going to Jungle Fight 63, where lost from Larissa Pacheco by TKO in Round 3.
Her successful performance drew attention. Irene Aldana signed with Invicta FC in mid-2014 and made her debut against Peggy Morgan at Invicta FC 8: Waterson vs. Tamada on September 9, 2014, submitting her with a rear-naked choke in the first round. She has four more fights in Invicta FC, winning versus Colleen Schneider by submission in Round 1, losing by Tonya Evinger by TKO in Round 4, as well as registering two more wins – versus Jessamyn Duke and Faith McMah, both by TKO in Round 1.
On November 6, 2016, it was announced that Irene Aldana was signed to the UFC and would face Leslie Smith on December 17, 2016, at UFC on Fox 22. She lost the fight by unanimous decision. Despite the loss, the bout earned Irene Aldana her first Fight of the Night bonus award in the UFC. Irene Aldana faced Talita Bernardo on January 14, 2018, at UFC Fight Night: Stephens vs. Choi. She won the fight via unanimous decision. She registered two more wins versus Lucie Pudilova (split decision) and Bethe Correia (armbar submission), before losing by Raquel Pennington. During the last two matches, Irene Aldana registered wins versus Vanessa Melo (unanimous decision) and Ketlen Vieira (KO in Round 1).
On October 4, 2020, Irene Aldana will fight versus Holly Holm.
