Jennifer Apreciada Gonçalves de Maia, better known as just Jennifer Maia, is a Brazilian female MMA fighter, who competes in the Flyweight division of the UFC. Jennifer Maia trains at Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil. As of August 4, 2020, she is No 3 in the UFC women’s flyweight rankings.
Jennifer Maia was born on October 6, 1988, in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. Her styles are Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Boxing.
On March 29, 2008, Jennifer Maia made her professional Boxing debut at Centri de Boxe in Curitiba, Brazil. She faced Michelle Bonassoli in an eight-round bout that went the distance and saw her victorious via unanimous decision. By August 2009, Jennifer Maia was competing in boxing but decided to change the style and turned to MMA.
On December 5, 2009, Jennifer Maia made her professional MMA debut. She won her first four fights, finishing each of them in the first round with three submissions and one TKO. She competed in Cage Warriors women’s flyweight title tournament, Samurai FC and etc.
On April 5, 2013, Jennifer Maia made her Invicta Fighting Championships debut against former Bellator Women’s Strawweight Champion Zoila Frausto Gurgel. She won the fight via unanimous decision. In 2016, she became Invicta FC Flyweight Champion and defended the title two times, before vacating it in July 2018.
Jennifer Maia then signed with The Ultimate Fighting Championship. She made her UFC debut against Liz Carmouche at UFC Fight Night 133 on July 14, 2018., but lost the fight by unanimous decision. After the negative start, she had two wins versus Alexis Davis (Unanimous Decision) and Roxanne Modafferi (Unanimous Decision). In November 2019, Jennifer Maia lost by Katlyn Chookagian, but several months later won versus Joanne Calderwood.
