Joanne Calderwood is a Scottish professional mixed martial artist and former Muay Thai champion who competes in the Women’s Flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As of August 4, 2020, she is No 5 in the UFC women’s flyweight rankings.
Joanne Calderwood was born on December 23, 1986, in Irvine, Scotland. She started in Muay Thai in 2000 and was named STBA Fighter of the year in 2009. She is the current ISKA World Flyweight Champion, IKF European Flyweight Champion, the WKL European Flyweight Champion, and the WBC UK Bantamweight Champion and is ranked #2 in the world by the World Professional Muaythai Federation.
Joanne Calderwood started her MMA career in February 2012. Her first fight was on OT – On Top 4 versus Noelia Molina, winning by TKO in Round 1. She won two more fights versus Lena Ovchynnikova (unanimous decision) and Ainara Mota (TKO), before joining Invicta FC. After signing with Invicta, Joanne Calderwood reached 5 consecutive wins – Ashley Cummins (KO in Round 1), Livia von Plettenberg (unanimous decision), Sally Krumdiack (TKO in Round 1), Norma Rueda Center (unanimous decision), and Katja Kankaanpaa (unanimous decision).
On December 11, 2013, it was announced that Joanne Calderwood was signed by the UFC along with ten other strawweight fighters to compete on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter, which will crown the first-ever UFC women’s strawweight champion. She debuted on December 12, 2013, at UFC – The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale versus Seo Hee Ham, winning by unanimous decision. On April 11, 2015, she faced Maryna Moroz and registered her first loss on the professional octagon, losing by submission in Round 1. After this fight, she registered 5 wins and 4 losses, making her professional record of 14-5-0 (W-L-D).
