Jodie Esquibel is an American mixed martial artist who most recently competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. She has also fought for Invicta FC and is a former NABF boxing champion. Jodie Esquibel has a personal MMA record of 6-6-0 (W-L-D).
Jodie Esquibel was born on May 7, 1986, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She started training boxing as a child, winning various of awards. Jodie Esquibel made a pretty successful professional boxing career with a personal record of 7-7-1 (W-L-D).
Jodie Esquibel made her professional MMA debut on April 9, 2011, at Jackson’s MMA Series 4. She won her fight against Brittany Horton by TKO in Round 1. Next year, she took part in Jackson’s MMA Series 7 event, winning versus Amy Riehle by unanimous decision. She simultaneously fought in the professional MMA and boxing scene.
Following the good start of her MMA career and the background she had in boxing, Jodie Esquibel signed with Invicta FC. Her debut for the championship was on January 5, 2013. She took part at Invicta FC 4 and fought versus Liz McCarthy, winning by a split decision. The same year, Jodie Esquibel had another fight at the Invicta FC 5, registering her first professional MMA loss from Alex Chambers by rear-naked choke submission in Round 1.
In 2014, Jodie Esquibel continue her successful performance and added two more wins to her MMA record. She won via split decision versus Jinh Yu Frey at Invicta FC 8 and by unanimous decision versus Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc at Invicta FC 9.
In 2015, Jodie Esquibel concentrated on her boxing career. In the middle of the year she had a fight for the NABF female minimumweight title versus Mayela Perez and all her efforts were directed to it. And she won!
In April 2016, it was announced that Esquibel would be a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Joanna vs. Team Cláudia. She was defeated by Ashley Yoder via a split decision in the opening qualifying round. On July 29, she had a fight versus Alexa Grasso at Invicta FC 18, but this time she lost by unanimous decision.
On March 25, 2017, she took part in Invicta FC 22 event, fighting versus DeAnna Bennett and winning her sixth victory by a split decision.
However, Jodie Esquibel signed with the UFC, where debuted on October 21, 2017, at the UFC Fight Night 118. Unfortunately, her debut was unsuccessful and she lost from Karolina Kowalkiewicz by unanimous decision. On July 14, 2018, she fought versus Jessica Aguilar at UFC Fight Night 133, but recorded another loss by unanimous decision.
In 2019, Jodie Esquibel had two more unsuccessful fights for the UFC. She lost from Angela Hill at UFC Fight Night 150 and from Hannah Cifers at the UFC 241, both by unanimous decision.
Despite her unsuccessful performance in the UFC, Jodie Esquibel is one of the most remarkable MMA fighters.
