Julia Budd is a Canadian kickboxer and mixed martial artist. She has fought in MMA promotions Strikeforce and Invicta Fighting Championships. She is the first and former Bellator Women’s Featherweight world champion. Julia Budd is currently the No 3-ranked 145-pound female MMA fighter in the world according to the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings. Her personal MMA record is 14-3-0 (W-L-D).
Julia Budd was born on July 4, 1983, in Roberts Creek, British Columbia, Canada. She practiced Muay Thai for many years and later became the only woman to defeat American Gina Carano in a Muay Thai competition. She has also practiced Kickboxing and Pankration.
Julia Budd made her MMA debut on October 22, 2010, at Strikeforce Challengers 11, defeating Shana Nelson via TKO in Round 2. She had three more fights at Strikeforce – loss from Amanda Nunes (by KO in Round 1), win versus Germaine de Randamie (by unanimous decision), and loss from Ronda Rousey (by armbar submission in Round 1).
In 2012, Julia Budd signed with Invicta Fighting Championships, making her debut on July 28, 2012. She won the fight versus Elina Nilsson by TKO in Round 1. Later the same year, she faced Danielle West at Invicta FC 3 and won by TKO in Round 1.
On April 05, 2013, Julia Budd fought versus Mollie Estes at Invicta FC 5, winning by rear-naked choke submission. On December 7, 2013, she won her fight versus Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 7 by unanimous decision.
In August 2014, Julia Budd signed with Bellator but debuted only on February 13, 2015. Her first fight was at Bellator 133 versus Gabrielle Holloway, winning by unanimous decision. Next years she made a fantastic series of 7 consecutive wins at Bellator – versus Roberta Samad (by unanimous decision), Arlene Blencowe (by majority decision), Marloes Coenen (TKO), Arlene Blencowe (split decision), Talita Nogueira (TKO), Olga Rubin (TKO). Thus, she had recorded 11 consecutive wins in Invicta FC and Bellator.
Her fantastic performance was stopped by Cristiane Justino on January 25, 2020, at Bellator 238, where Julia Budd lost by TKO.
On August 21, 2020, Julia Budd played versus Jessy Miele at Bellator 244, winning the fight by unanimous decision.
