Julianna Pena is an American mixed martial artist (MMA) who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). She is the first woman to win The Ultimate Fighter. As of October 12, 2020, she is No 6 in the UFC women’s bantamweight rankings and as of November 9, 2020, and No 15 in UFC women’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Julianna Pena was born on August 19, 1989, in Spokane, Washington. She graduated in 2007 from Mt. Spokane High School and then attended Spokane Community College.
Julianna Pena made her professional MMA debut on May 9, 2009, at ExciteFight. She won her fight versus Raylene Harvey by rear-naked choke submission. She hat two more fights during the same year, registering two wins versus Robyn Dunne (by TKO) and Stephanie Webber (by armbar submission).
After an interruption of more than one year, Julianna Pena returned to professional MMA fights at Conquest of the Cage. On December 15, 2011, she won the fight versus Rachael Swatez at Conquest of the Cage 10 by guillotine choke submission. On April 19, 2012, she registered her first loss from Sarah Moras at Conquest of the Cage 11 by TKO. Julianna Pena registered another loss, at Showdown Fights 10 (on February 8, 2013), from DeAnna Bennett by unanimous decision.
In August 2013, it was announced that Peña was one of the fighters selected to be on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs Team Tate and reached the finals. On November 30, 2013, Julianna Pena debuted in the UFC at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale. She won her fight versus Jessica Rakoczy by TKO in Round 1. In 2014, Julianna Pena suffered an injury and returned to the Octagon in April 4, 2015, at UFC Fight Night 63, winning the fight versus Milana Dudieva by TKO in Round 1. In the next fights, she extended her winning series – versus Jessica Eye at UFC 192 (by unanimous decision) and Cat Zingano at UFC 200 (by unanimous decision).
On January 28, 2017, Julianna Pena registered her first loss in the UFC. She lost the fight at UFC on Fox 23 from Valentina Shevchenko by armbar submission in Round 2. In the next fight, Julianna Pena registered a win versus Nicco Montano at UFC Fight Night 155 and a loss from Germaine de Randamie at UFC on ESPN 16.
